I understand your skepticism and suspicion

Considering the irregularities and manipulations we saw during Dem primaries, but we saw these things happening with our own eyes. We had friends on the ground. We saw things like planted p... in our groups, Hillary declaring win early in Cali, white noise machines, seat fillers, anchors like Ben Swann disappearing, buses with fake supporters, faked crowds, David Brock stuff, that guy who posted and went silent in Twitter, delegates locked out,  But now you require none of that firsthand experience to believe. In fact, you roll with things that are demonstrably untrue. We've even got Republicans out here now, majority polled who believe left-wing protestors were responsible for what people like you did, even though republicans were straight up taking credit and appeared in photos. What kind of crazy b.s. is that??

Framing of things

"Agenda" why do righties always call lefties ideas agendas but never their own? Yes, media does frame incidents to incite and perpetuate division. They always call attention to the race of individuals in an incident. If you want to look for an agenda, look for who's behind the push to make us always look for the negative, for something to criticize in one another.

Critical Thinking

I'm glad you brought that up. It's a teen we liked to bandy about. I don't use it much anymore. It's been weaponzized, and I'm developing an aversion to the use if weaponzized language. It's not useful in any positive sense. I'm sure it peppers my own speech still without me realizing it, but I'm trying to train myself to recognize it. I don't think someone who's truly a critical thinker ever finds a place to land, rarely finds a group. I think it's safe to say you've ceased to be a critical thinker when your default for every incident is the alternative or least popular explanation.  You're not a critical thinker when any professional who agrees with what you've decided is truth automatically has cred and becomes the authority in your book. You're not a critical thinker when you dismiss out of hand or ignore what doesn't square with your perspective and actively search for and elevate what does.

There are things on which we can absolutely agree

Especially PC run amok trans Call everything racist seek to be offended. Not all cops bad  Christianity has been targeted We need to stay out of other countries Liberal arrogance is a problem There's bias in left-leaning media Democrats are just as foul  Obama was not perfect. Hillary's campaign gave us Trump Corruption is a problem and human trafficking is global and big business.  Top heaviness in wealth is a major problem, so why are we instead of pointing at that pointing at minor differences in one another? Everything we do, we overdo. But you certainly have. Yes, there are agendas, but why is everything one doesn't support get labeled as someone else's agenda, and why isn't what you support an agenda in your mind?

Patriotic Duty

Remember when left leaning journalist openly said it was their duty to collude and dump Trump by any means necessary? This is a recurring theme on both sides, the excusing and justifying of bad behavior and criminality to have one's way politically or to restore one's party to or maintain power. You we're for that and criticized it when leftists did it, but now you're doing it.

MAGA

What does that mean to you? Do you truly think the US is greater for having had four years of Trump? Do you think being unprepared for a pandemic was great? Was normalizing lying on a regular in public statements great? Is anti-intellectualism great for us? Is buffoonery in the highest office of the land great? Is loss of other countries' respect great? Is justifying police great? Is rewarding bad behavior going to make us great? Is absence of journalistic integrity great? Is ego stroking and maintenance at any cost great? Is the Karen meme great? Is hostility and intentional fostering of divisiveness making us great? Is name calling great?

Joe, Sorry, I had to take a deep figurative breath after your last letter. I want to give what you said a lot of thought and reflection before reacting. Tact has never been my strong suit, as you well know. But you also know that in my frankness I mean well and try to be as honest as I hope others will be with me. Sometimes, we just need to hear the blunt truth. Over the past few weeks I've done an awful lot of soul searching and I THINK have gotten a clearer picture of things that were very murky for a long time. I realize in hindsight I had some very good friends that tried to gently correct me back in '16 when I was veering off the path of reason. But I wasn't open to listening back then. I can be a slow learner at times. Maybe you will be wiser than I was in that regard.  What my sage friends tried to point out to me at the time was arrogance. They didn't say that, but that's exactly what it was. I thought I knew more than they did. I thought I knew more than I...

Jan. 22

Hey, Joe I just put my first letter to you in the mail yesterday, so I know you wouldn't have had to me to write back yet, but a few things occurred to me after I wrote it. I don't know what kind of access you have to Internet or even writing or reading materials, so I'm sending you a few things with this letter. Writing paper, envelopes, a roll of stamps. I'll throw in a few books also. I just finished a couple I think you'll like since you're into little-known history like I am.  Also, it occurred to me that your mail is probably being intercepted and/or monitored, so I'll try not to be too inquisitive about what's going on with or might affect your defense. Maybe the less said about the events of the 6th and anything in the days leading up to it, the better. TBH, I'm a lot more interested in figuring out how we got here in the first place. By "we" I don't mean just the two of us and the damaged ties, but the country as a whole. By ...

I have to take your claim that you were just a patriot who got caught up by mob mentality at face value. But, just being real here, I'm not sure that characterization is going to fly as a defense in court. It was those selfies you posted on FB that led to your arrest, right? They weren't exactly benign. If the prosecution presents pics of you in the chamber flag draped, fist raised and looking pleased with yourself, the 'I just got caught up' defense is going to be a hard sell. Those kinds of pics scream, "I came here to get a job done and I want the world to know it." I can believe that not everyone who went to the Capitol that day had murderous intent, but I don't believe anyone went with the expectation of a peaceful protest. Everyone went with purpose and a "stop the steal" mentality. How were you intending to stop a vote taking place within a closed chamber without physically and forcefully disrupting the proceedings?  Reading your letter t...

Hi, Joe I would ask how you're doing these days, but considering how our last encounter ended, you'd probably think I was being snarky.  Nothing could be further from the truth. Learning of your arrest left me stunned and saddened, and that's truly all I have to convey right now. Liz gave me this address for you when she and I texted back and forth a few days ago. I hesitated to write, but then figured you might be open to hearing from me since Liz had my number and reached out regarding bail. As for bail, I'm sorry I couldn't help out. It's a crazy high amount they set for you. I think Laura may be right in her perception that they want to make an example of you and a few others who are just regular guys whose plight will act as a deterrent to other regular guys considering civil disobedience. Is that what you consider it to be, civil disobedience, or is it still in your mind straightforward patriotic expression and duty taken to a level you feel is necessary? ...
