Makes it such that it's very easy to stay in a negative and reactive state of mind. As soon as you see something, your fingers start flying and typically what comes out is not processed or considered, which means it often doesn't reflect your best or highest self, and you've got everyone doing that. It's a freeforall. It's a daily regimen of negativity, really. And it's sooo easy to get pulled back into even when you realize this and pull back. The solution is to be very conscientious about feeding your brain a different kind of daily diet, a diet of positive thoughts. It's the only way at this point.
Talk here about the 40% of American adults who would rather give up a car, TV, or their pet than social media. That's crazy, and it really reflects our addiction to responding in the way we do to one another. We don't want to kick this habit. That doesn't bode well for our near future as a country or a people.
I actually think what you and I are doing here is much more productive than anything we would be doing on social media, maybe more productive than months worth of our output on FB, which was going nowhere. Because we're not just taking our time and sitting with what one another has said before responding, we're being very intentional about hearing one another and building a bridge to understanding. That, even though it's one to one, I think is more productive than a bunch of yelling in the winds of social media, contributing to noise.
