People are being ugly more foul and offensive than ever

More confrontational, profane, unhinged, rude, and entitled acting than ever, and are proud of and defensive of their awful behavior. Why?

Is this supposed to be part of that America being "great?" Is that your greatness? It never was before, so why is it framed as going back to a period of greatness?

We were only great when we wereaming life better for a majority of citizens. We're definitely not doing that now. Many of our grandparents would be shocked and appalled by the behavior and by what we've undone in such a brief period of time.

You let other people and media tell you what to be outraged about

And that's insanity. Whatever they present to you for the day online, that's what you go with as your activist mission or outrage de jour. We've all been doing this and it's nuts. We go off about things we had no interest in or concern about the day prior, and don't even remember a few months later. Why?

We don't have to opine on everything.

We really don't. I think social media is what's responsible. It's got us thinking that we need to voice our opinion on everything that happens and everything that said and done when really we don't need to at all. And then we feel the need to respond to others' responses. Why? Our opinion about what goes on in the world isn't always relevant, is frequently not well enough informed, and is almost always precipitous and unnecessary. And the media feels like they have so much air and space to fill, because now news must be 24/7 and everywhere, that they fill interviews, columns, talks shows, etc. with opinion. They ask people what they think about what someone else said or posted and demand a reaction. What does it really matter what someone else thinks and why must others always weigh in? Take, for example, Naomi Osaka pullout. She said what she said, she gave her reasons, accepted the fine, and that should have been the end of it. But, no. It has to get talked to...
